This evening I visited a cache that's a logbook placed in the stacks of a public library. Unless you know what you're looking for, the book looks just like a random library book on the shelf, but the author has included the dewey decimal number in the cache listing so cachers can find it easily.

That is pretty creative...isn't there something in the rules about putting them on private property? but then again, isn't the Library public? Either way it is a kewl idea?

There's something in the rules about placing them anywhere that you don't have permission to do so. However, the implementation seems to be more of a "haven't been told not to" rule.

          How neat!!!

I think the "coolest" cache i have found was a small film canaster in a rock behind a creek bridge wall under more rocks. The owner of the cache drilled a hole in the rock, a perfect fit for a film canaster to sit underneath. Was pritty intersting!

Can all of you post links when referring to caches? THat way we might be able to share in some of the fun. Was the Library one at UCSD?

No, the library one I visited is in San Francisco.

Posting a link would be a bit of a spoiler, though.

posting a link to the cache...or the cache name so others can search for it...how is that a spoiler??

I've already told you where it's located. If you just read the cache description, you would have to figure that out on your own.

(If you must, it's in San Francisco, and the name of it is Ex Libris.)

I like this because one of my first jobs was full-time book shelving in the graduate library at Cornell. Shelvers found all kinds of odd stuff--bras, pantyhose and the like, maybe stashed dope, though that may be a sort of unverifiable local legend.

I guess it must be on the first floor, since there's no "z axis" iwith the coordinates?

Nope, not on the first floor. There's a note that says:

You will need this number: 526.7 Don't try to find the cache without it!

But I notice that it's now archived. How sad.
