Hi there. Kim the Matriarch and Dog Wrangler from Team Yahtzee in Texas.

A friend of mine and I have a long-standing argument about TBs. I like them; he doesn't. I asked him why and he said, "Look, most of the time they are just jangly little things with a goofy toy attached and you pick this thing up and are suddenly saddled with the guilt of making sure it gets placed 'better'', 'farther', 'faster' than you can generally do. You are stuck with a jangly bit of metal that has Olympic needs." Now my geocaching buddy has issues he is working through and I try and pocket TB I find when were looking together surrepticiously but I got to thinking...

I need some ideas and help on making some creative TB themes so I can bolster my argument. DOes anyone out there have any good thoughts on what would make an engaging and fun TB? Help a fellow-ette cacher out.

Gracias!!

(caches logged under hippie558 and owner of "Will Work for RIde", a very un-needy TB)

I've seen travel bug races, where multiple cachers will start a bug on the same day and see who can get it the farthest by some date.

Camera travel bugs are interesting. Send a small disposable camera on its way.

Good idea! Like that gnome that went around the world... or was it a flamingo? I am sure TSA gave someone unprecedented sanctimonious crap about that in the carry on. lol

My TB has a patch on it from my FD w/instructions to take pics of it at your work. He doesn't seem to be travelling very fast.

Any more ideas? For my buddy's bday I was going to release a gaggle o bugs in his name and that is coming up soon. It is either that or Adopt-A-Bat... ;-)

I understand were your friend is coming from, but in general if I find a TB I grab it. The only bad part, as your friend mentions is. you've got some sort of obligation to move it on afterwards. I've got a TB I pulled over a year and a half ago...still haven't set it on its way. Feeling a little guilty, but no to much...

also, I'm yet to place my first cache...been looking for the right place...but my bug is themed to go along with my cache....

    cheers~

I like travel bugs because I find it interesting to follow where the go and some of the unique "missions" they have. I find TBs without a mission or some other originality to be a bit lame though. I don't get stressed out if I pick up a bug and don't immediately move it on. I think it is most important to follow the bug owner's wishes, and if I can't place it in a cache that follows the theme I don't take it. Unfortunately not all bug owners include a mission statement with the bug, so sometimes you don't know it's goal untill you get home an look it up. So in brief: I like bugs with a goal or mission, and all bugs should travel with a mission statement. Also try to keep them smallish, large bugs are harder to find caches for.
